Facebook had wel, Twitter had geen goed eerste kwartaal van 2016. We hebben het dan over de financi\u00eble situatie. Twitter wilt niet langer ingedeeld\u00a0worden als sociaal netwerk. Zo bemerkte Amerikaanse blog The Verge op. Twitter laat zich in de appstore van Apple nu als News-app omschrijven. Als Facebook een appel is dan willen wij een sinaasappel zijn. <\/em><\/p>\n Twitter just had a no good, very bad quarter<\/a> where it missed revenue numbers and despite beating user growth numbers, is still idling at around 310 million active users. In its earnings call, CEO Jack Dorsey repeated his message that Twitter is all about what’s happening live<\/i>. So thematically, switching from social to news makes a bit of sense: Twitter is where you go to get information. Facebook is vooral een zelfpresentatie en veel lol. Twitter is toch vooral een nieuwsnetwerk in wording. Of.. – aldus Dorsey – eigenlijk altijd al een nieuws-app geweest.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Twitter needs the “What about Facebook” question to stop making sense. You don’t knock LinkedIn too hard for not measuring up to Facebook, because LinkedIn is a fundamentally different thing. Twitter wants to be a fundamentally different thing too, and then be judged by its users and by advertisers on its own terms.\u00a0Three years ago I posited<\/a> that it wanted that thing to be some kind of broadcast network that just happened to be social. And the cottage industry of “What is Twitter” analysis has been churning along since it was founded. We keep asking the question no matter how many times Dorsey (and Costolo before him) gives us his answer. It’s almost like we don’twant<\/i> an answer anymore \u2014 but Twitter’s advertising partners clearly do.\u00a0So why not a “News” app? Taking on the likes of TV networks seems like a much easier set of giants to slay than Facebook at this point.
