Een emoticon is een emoji, net zoals ook een symbool van een koe of middelvinger een emoji is. De afbeeldingen komen uit Japan. Emoji betekent het \u2018fotobrief\u2019 en basis ligt in 1995, toen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.nl\/search?q=piepers+pagers&amp;rlz=1C1OPRB_enNL584NL584&amp;espv=2&amp;source=lnms&amp;tbm=isch&amp;sa=X&amp;ei=Zp6hU4yUEc6n0wXEsIDwDg&amp;ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ&amp;biw=1528&amp;bih=809#q=pagers&amp;tbm=isch\">piepers <\/a>een rage waren onder Japanse tieners, en de mobiele provider NTT Domoco besloot om het versturen van een hartje mogelijk te maken. De emoji kwamen in 1999, toen de provider mobiel internet lanceerde en werknemer Shigetaka Kurita met 176 symbooltjes op de proppen kwam (bron: NRCQ).\u00a0Kurita werd ge\u00efnspireerd door manga, Chinese karakters en straatborden, zo vertelde hij vorig jaar aan<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2013\/3\/4\/3966140\/how-emoji-conquered-the-world\">The Verge<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2>Goedkeuring<\/h2>\n<p>Die Emoji is goedgekeurd door het <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/unicode.org\/consortium\/consort.html\" target=\"_blank\">Unicode Consortium<\/a><\/span> (UC) zodat de tekens in diverse universele systemen gebruikt kunnen worden. Het UC\u00a0is een non-profitorganisatie uit Californi\u00eb die digitale tekens codeert en standaardiseert zodat ze wereldwijd te gebruiken zijn.
