Amazon en ebooks lijk &#8211; ook in Europa &#8211; keihard aan elkaar verbonden. Is er wellicht sprake van concurentie vervalsing?\u00a0De Europese Commissie gaat kijken of Amazon zijn machtspositie bij de verkoop van e-books misbruikt. Er komt een officieel onderzoek naar bepaalde afspraken die met uitgevers zijn gemaakt.<\/p>\n<h2>Staatssteun en\u00a0Luxemburg<\/h2>\n<p>Amazon was al onderwerp van een onderzoek naar staatssteun door belastingontwijking via Luxemburg. Daardoor betaalde de etailer over een Europese omzet van bijna veertien miljard euro slechts 29 miljoen euro belasting. In mei werd daar door Brussel een einde aan gemaakt.<\/p>\n<h2>Nieuw onderzoek<\/h2>\n<p>Bij het nieuwe onderzoek wordt gekeken naar contracten waarin is opgenomen dat uitgevers Amazon moeten informeren over gunstigere of alternatieve voorwaarden van concurrenten.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAmazon has developed a successful business that offers consumers a comprehensive service, including for ebooks,<\/em>\u201d zegt\u00a0Margrethe Vestager van de Europese Commissie. <em>\u201cOur investigation does not call that into question. However, it is my duty to make sure that Amazon\u2019s arrangements with publishers are not harmful to consumers, by preventing other ebook distributors from innovating and competing effectively with Amazon.
