Sociale netwerken hebben flinke impact op onze huidige (digitale) sociale levens. De Amerikanen kennen gemiddeld tussen de 500 en 650 sociale netwerk-verbindingen en kennen – en dat is niet verrassend – Facebook als h\u00e9t sociale netwerk. LinkedIn en ook nog MySpace zijn ad-hoc en ‘soms te bezoeken’-sociale netwerken. Sinds 2008 worden de leden van de sociale netwerken (in het onderzoek SNS genoemd) ouder en zitten wij aantoonbaar langer op de netwerken. Hierbij is (in Amerika) Facebook veruit de nummer 1 gevolgd door MySpace en LinkedIn. Kijken we naar Europa dan zal MySpace minder hoog eindigen. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Een wetenschappelijk\u00a0(diepte) onderzoek van het Amerikaanse PEW Research dat verbanden legt tussen digitaal ‘engaged’ zijn als ook in het echte leven. Daarnaast wordt er gegeven naar het verband tussen leeftijd en actief zijn. De leeftijd 18-49 jaar speelt een grote rol in de SNS. Kritiek is dat het onderzoek wel heel erg op de Amerikaanse samenleving is gericht. De volledigheid en diverse logische verbanden verdienen dan weer een pluim.<\/p>\n

De scope <\/strong><\/p>\n

Het onderzoek vond plaats tussen eind 2008 en eind 2010. De titake groep bestond uit 2255 Amerikanen en daarvan 1787 internetgebruikers:<\/p>\n

“Introduction: There has been a great deal of speculation about the impact of social networking sites (SNS) onusers\u2019 lives. Some fear that SNS use might diminish human relationships and contact, perhapsincreasing social isolation. Others exult that pervasive connectivity using technology will add topeople\u2019s stores of social capital and lead to other social payoffs.We tackle these important issues with the results of what we believe is the first national,representative survey of American adults on their use of SNS and their overall social networks.Some 2,255 American adults were surveyed between October 20-November 28, 2010, including1,787 internet users. There were 975 users of SNS such as Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, andTwitter.1In this report, we recognize that there is a great deal of variation in how people use SNS, in thetypes of platforms that are available, and the types of people that are attracted to differentsites. We pull these variables apart and provide a detailed picture of what SNS users look like,which SNS platforms different people use, and the relationship between uses of technology andthe size and structure of people\u2019s overall social networks. We also examine the amount ofsupport SNS users receive from their social ties, their ability to consider multiple view points,their levels of social trust, and their community, civic, and political participation, and wecompare them with users and non-users of other technologies.We also provide an update to findings first published in 2009 in Pew Internet\u2019s report on \u201cSocialIsolation and New Technologies\u201d ” <\/em><\/p>\n
