YouTube: Google Play Music en videoplatform YouTube Red samenvoegen
Op The Verge valt te lezen dat Google overweegt om hun nog niet goed lopende Google Play Music en het opkomende videoplatform YouTube Red samen te brengen tot één streamingdiens, zo zou Lyor Cohen, hoofd muziek bij YouTube hebben geopperd:
YouTube’s head of music confirmed that the company is planning on merging its Google Play Music service with YouTube Red to create a new streaming offering. During a panel session for the New Music Seminar conference in New York, Lyor Cohen stated that the company needed to merge the two services to help educate consumers and bring in new subscribers.
2017
Begin 2017 voegde Google al de medewerkers van Google Play Music en YouTube Red samen. Tot een gezamenlijk platform kwam het nog niet. Het aanbod van YouTube bestaat hoofdzakelijk uit YouTube Red, YouTubeMusic en YouTube TV. De eerste dienst verwijdert advertenties uit video’s en stelt gebruikers in staat video’s offline op te slaan en hebben abonnees gratis toegang tot Google Play Music. YouTubeMusic is beschikbaar voor iedereen, maar biedt meer functionaliteiten in combinatie met YouTube Red. YouTube TV is nog niet beschikbaar. Ook is in Nederland YouTube Red nog niet beschikbaar.
In a statement to The Verge, Google said it will notify users of any changes before they happen. “Music is very important to Google and we’re evaluating how to bring together our music offerings to deliver the best possible product for our users, music partners and artists. Nothing will change for users today and we’ll provide plenty of notice before any changes are made.”
Google liet weten gebruikers op de hoogte te stellen wanneer veranderingen in het aanbod zullen plaatsvinden, maar een tijdspad werd niet gegeven.
